Sorbitan fatty acid esters, also known as Span, are an important class of nonionic surfactants. It appears as a white to yellowish-brown liquid, powder, thin sheet, granule or waxy block, and its properties vary depending on the type of fatty acid it constitutes.

Sorbitan fatty acid esters (trade name "Sapan"), as nonionic surfactants, play a key role in many fields due to their excellent emulsifying, dispersing, stabilizing and solubilizing functions: In the pharmaceutical field, it is used as a pharmaceutical excipient in preparations such as ointments and oral emulsions. In the industrial field, it is applied in textile production to enhance the processing performance and final quality of products.
